New beta-version 4.33 of Dr.Web for Unix released

Moscow, May 26, 2005
Doctor Web, Ltd. invites beta-testers to test Version 4.33 of Dr.Web Antivirus products for UNIX which is accessible for bet testing since May 27.

In addition to the updated antivirus versions for protection of Internet gateways, mail and file servers, we present our new product – graphical interface module (GUI front-end) for the on-demand scanner and the updating utility.

The GUI module allows not only easy settings of the scanner, but also to administrate the process of scanning, giving possibility to identify the scanned objects and store their sets for the subsequent checking sessions.

The GUI of the scanner will substantially simplify the process of interaction of a user with the technical support service of Doctor Web, Ltd. Various options of the "Support" pane allow to quickly shift from the scanner’s panel to the company’s main web-page or to the Dr.Web for Unix users forum. The "Quarantine" pane has the option of sending suspicious files to the Virus Monitoring service of Doctor Web, Ltd. directly.

In Unix-versions of Dr.Web 4.33 beta the following new options and improvements have been made.

  • Support of additional bases for detection of spyware, adware and riskware is enabled (on more details about these bases read our news). The antivirus has received additional settings for actions with spyware, adware and riskware.
  • The automatic updating of the Dr.Web antivirus engine is implemented. The compatibility of the new engine with the daemon version is checked first.
  • Check of CHM files (Compiled HTML Help) is added.

  • The daemon supports processing with several license key files simultaneously. Support of one product is enabled by one key, support of another product is enabled by the other key. Besides, this option can be used if the license should be extended (for example, when additional key allows to extend the quantity of addresses protected by Dr.Web).
  • The option of automatic notification on the license expiration is added.
  • The updating utility has been completely rewritten. Support of automatic updating of the list of trusted updating servers by the drl-files, with URLs of these servers and digitally signed by Dr.Web is enabled. Logging of the updating utility is implemented. Multi-level detailed logging is supported. The report on updating can be displayed to the console or sent by e-mail.
  • The traffic licensing model of "Dr.Web for mail servers" is simplified: the traffic per hours is not counted any more.
  • Dr.Web for Internet-gateways has been considerably improved. The support of quarantine is added. The log file size is controlled automatically. Total operation speed of the drweb-icap filter has been improved.
  • Errors revealed in versions 4.32.Х are corrected.
