Doctor Web, Ltd. announces open beta-testing of the new version (4.33) of the Dr.Web anti-virus for Windows servers

Dr.Web for Windows servers. Version 4.33 beta-testing

August 17, 2005

A new product is available for beta-testers — Dr.Web. anti-virus for Windows Servers operated by NT/2000/2003. It is powered by a newly designed Dr.Web engine version 4.33, which incorporates an upgraded anti-virus functionality. The anti-virus is supplied with new version of SpIDer Guard® - an on-acces scanner checking "on-the-fly" all file operations on workstations and servers. In new version the size of the new virus definition bases has been reduced even more, due to the technological improvement of the engine though they have been extended with the new types of the virus bases for detection of Spyware and Adware, as well as potentially dangerous software (Riskware).

New functionality of the SpIDer Guard resident monitor specially designed for Window-based servers, is characterized by new flexible settings, allowing a user to set its own scenario for operation with different objects detected on the drives.

Due to the complex nature of the modern Windows filesystem, an efficient anti-virus monitoring of file operations is sometimes difficult if not impossible, if done following only a single specific anti-virus algorithm.

For this reason, the developers of Dr.Web have decided to provide the server administrator managing the anti-virus according to the security policy adopted in the enterprise with the option of prognosis of different variants of the situation upon detection of infected or presumably infected objects by the anti-virus module.

Besides, the new system of the anti-virus protection of Windows servers provides users with by far higher level of security combined with invariably high speed of files processing. The new version of the resident monitor incorporates the function of intellectual load management of the filesystem, providing for scanning of files opened on local drives for reading during the maximum filesystem’s workload.

For optimal productivity of the anti-virus protection of servers new options in settings are provided, which allow to restrict the size of checked files, to control the maximum size of the unpacked archived files and give ever widest options for exclusion of specific files or directories from the scanning. In addition, new parameters of settings for flexible scanning of archives in the real time mode are added — it is generally known, that these scanning modes of the anti-virus are the most resource-consuming and critical on servers.

Beta-testers can register and get access to the beta-version on the download server of Doctor Web, Ltd.
